Reading Time:

Many people fail to realize that fat loss is much more than calories in vs. calories out. When you eat to improve your health you will inevitably lose body fat. This is the only strategy that works long term. So how do you eat in a way to prevent malnutrition, improve your health and keep body fat off-Permanently?

1) MAKE SURE YOU ARE ABSORBING YOUR NUTRIENTS
After spending a week in Phoenix with Legendary Strength Coach Charles Poliquin, the message that stuck in my head, was- “It’s not just what you eat but how much you assimilate”. Click here to read more. This basically means that even if your diet is perfect, you may not be absorbing the nutrients needed to optimize health and promote fat loss.

2) EAT ORGANIC
According to Dr. Robert Rakowski, commercial farming has depleted the soil over the past half century by using fertilizers that contain nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. It takes 17 elements to make a healthy plant and we only put three back in. So what happens is the malnutrition in the plants becomes malnutrition in animals which then becomes malnutrition in humans. By supporting farmers who use healthier farming practices you can purchase higher quality foods and improve the environment.

3) ONLY CONSUME NUTRIENT DENSE FOOD
A large percentage of the food that the average American eats would be considered “empty calories”. Many experts often joke that the cardboard cereal box actually contains more nutrients than the cereal itself-actually that is pretty accurate! To optimize health you must stick with Nutrient Dense Whole Foods. Grassfed/Free Range Proteins, Organic produce as well as plenty of healthy fats from Oils, nuts, and seeds should always make up the majority of your diet.

4) EAT A WIDER VARIETY OF FOODS
As I’ve talked about before, the average American eats approx 18 foods over their lifetime. Not only does this set you up for food allergies, but many nutrient deficiencies. For instance, every protein has a different amino acid breakdown. Every fruit and vegetable has a different micronutrient breakdown. Try new foods, especially seasonal. Rotate your foods so that you are not eating the same things every day. If you listen to your body this will also give you a chance to see which foods give you energy and mental clarity and which foods may make you feel lethargic.

5) TAKE A QUALITY MULTIVITAMIN
Even if you consistently follow my 4 rules above, many people will still need the support of a quality multivitamin. Some nutrients, especially minerals can take a long time to build up an adequate level. It’s important that you find a quality multivitamin with specific forms of vitamins and mineral to ensure absorption. I highly recommend Genethix for men and Multi Intense for women because of the results my clients have seen. Their quality is second to none.
